What is Stavanger like as a place to live. I have been told it is full of boring oil rich people with no capacity for abstract thought, and it rains all the time like Bergen. But I have also been told that it is like paradise on earth, with good swell and offshore winds everyday, that there is a happy bustling little surf scene without too many crowds and that you can ski nearby.

I am sure neither of these responses can be entirely true so, what I want to know is, how good is the surf really? dues it suffer from lots of flat spells and strong onshore winds? Is there a happy little surf scene? or is it full of American oil workers who behave as if they are surfing at Huntington? Dues it rain a lot more than it dues in Oslo? Would I be able to live by the beach and work in the city? Can you ski nearby and is there other existing outdoor things to when it is flat?
