Everythings relative, but Ålesund is hardly mentioned, and both Volda / Ørsta are forgotten.. + Sunnmørsalpene: The most spectacular landscape in Norway (besides of Lofoten), with fjords, glaciers, sea and steep alp valleys surrounding these cities / villages. - Normally the temperature is a bit higher in this region than Romsdalen, and a bit more humid than Sogndal, so the snow is easier getting packed or raining away. Population: Ålesund: 42000 inhabitants, with suburb area: 70000, the way biggest city between Bergen and Trondheim, and the main center of the norwegian world leading ship yard cluster. One of few norwegian cities worth mentioning due to architecture. Volda: 9000 (Education center). Small, charming village.Ørsta: 10000 (Industry). Small, uncharming village made of concrete, with fantastic surroundings.Daily bus to Oslo, (8 hours with car), Trondheim, (7 hours), Bergen (8 hours), from all places.
3 airports within 2,5 hours from all of them.
Don`t even bother to think about railway in Norway, (if you are not heading for Voss). Norwegian railways (NSB) is expensive, delayed and not reliable one fucking place when you need it.
